There have been some awesome Arizona maps drawn by users here. I've been tinkering with Arizona redistricting for a few months now, but I wanted to try something different. Much of Arizona's growth has been concentrated in the suburbs to the west and southeast of Phoenix, as well as exurban Pinal County. The state gets a ninth district with this round of redistricting and the good money's on the new district taking in these areas of rapid growth. Most of the maps I've seen reflect that speculation and I am also inclined to agree. However, I wanted to try to draw a map that doesn't include these areas in the new 9th district.
I did my best to draw the lines by the redistricting commission's community-of-interest standard and to retain two VRA, Latino-majority districts. Although I wasn't aiming for protecting incumbents, the resulting map does that quite well. Despite this, I very much doubt this map will ever be drawn, but it was a fun mental exercise in any case.
