You want to spur domestic oil production?

     This is a short diary because the answer to the title is simple and would work without a doubt. You can get rid of all the oil subsidies that our Republican friends refuse to take away from their benefactors and it would still work.
       You simply put an $20 a barrel tax on any imported oil.It would be nice to use that money for clean energy but it does not matter. This would spur domestic production and exploration, would put more oil on the market and more than likely drop the price of oil in the median term.
     Can this happen? No, because of what American business has become. The real money(see health insurance companies, financial companies etc) is being the middleman. The oil companies make more money dealing with foreign oil that producing their own. The oil companies owned and operated congresspeople would never let this happen but this $20 tax does not alter the fact that this would change the whole equation.
