I have been hearing progressives and liberals talking about the stripping of collective bargaining ever since it was attempted in Wisconsin. What shocks me the most is how liberals almost unanimously support collective bargaining. I am not arguing that the collective bargaining rights are what is causing the deficit; they clearly aren’t. Nor am I arguing that the Republicans are correct and that simply stripping collective bargaining rights without a replacement is ok. They aren’t and it isn’t. What I am arguing, however, is that collective bargaining hurts not only teachers, but students, and our education system as a whole. To reform our education system we must put everything on the table, and that includes collective bargaining.
